Our Veterinarians
Dr. Kevin J. Soncrant
Dr. Kevin J Soncrant graduated from Clay High School in June of 1981 and moved to Columbus, Ohio to pursue a DVM degree at The Ohio State University.
He graduated in 1989 from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and moved back with his wife and 2 daughters (Heather & Missy) to his hometown of Oregon to practice with his Father-in- law, Dr. William Iman, at Iman Veterinary Hospital (now MBVH).
Dr. Soncrant has grown his family-owned and operated Maumee Bay Veterinary Hospital for over twenty-plus years. Dr. Soncrant is proud to provide Veterinary services in his hometown alongside his daughters: Veterinary Partner, Dr. Heather Soncrant-Sydebotham and Office Manager, Melissa Hagemann.
Dr. Kevin and his wife Deb enjoy time with their grandchildren- Lucas, Aedan, Jacob, Kira & Ava.
They have three extremely spoiled dogs: Bella (Black Lab), GiGi (Yorkie), and Booboo (Maltese mix).
Dr. Heather R. Sydebotham
Dr. Heather R. Sydebotham (Soncrant) is a 2002 valedictorian graduate of Clay High School. She attended OSU for her undergraduate studies where she also had the opportunity to study abroad in Australia. During her undergraduate studies she worked for MedVet Columbus (a referral and emergency clinic).
Dr. Heather followed in her grandfather and father’s footsteps as she also graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in June 2009. Dr. Heather works side by side with her father as our second full time veterinarian. Dr. Heather lives in Graytown, OH with her husband Cody, and their 3 kids, Jacob, Kira and Ava. They have cats- Sophie, and Smash, along with their Frenchies: Otis, Everest, and Bindi. They also have two goats (Axel and Reindeer) and three horses (Neytiri, Seze, and Oreo). She enjoys spending time with her family horseback riding, playing board games, and anything to do with animals. She is a true animal lover!
Our Team
Mrs. Debra K. Soncrant
Deb Soncrant (Iman) graduated from Clay High School in 1980. Marrying her High School sweetheart (Dr. Kevin in July of 1981) she moved to Columbus, Ohio to support Kevin’s pursuit of a Veterinary Medicine degree at The Ohio State University. After eight years in Columbus, the family returned to Oregon, Ohio. Working part time at Iman Veterinary Hospital (currently MBVH) Deb attended The University of Toledo.
She received her Elementary Art Degree (1995) and began teaching in Oregon City Schools in 1996. Deb later earned her Art Education degree and Masters of Art Education degree from The University of Toledo as well. She since has retired from teaching Art at Clay High School. Deb enjoy art, spoiling their dogs, and being Grammy to her wonderful group of grandkids.
Missy Hagemann (Soncrant)
Missy is a 2006 graduate of St. Ursula Academy. She attended The University of Toledo for Business Management. Missy is currently putting her management skills to work in the office and helping to run the family business as she is our office/personnel manager. She completed the VMG Leadership Program at the Daniels College of Business/University of Denver in Aug 2014 and continues to work on her practice management skills through continuing education. Missy is also a very active member in our community coaching at the Oregon Recreation Center and helping the American Cancer Society planning board for the Relay for Life and the Bark for life. Missy enjoys family time with her husband Steve and their sons Lucas and Aedan, including fishing, jetskiing, fourwheeling, and just about any outside sport or activity they can find. She lives east of Oregon with her husband Steve, their sons Lucas & Aedan, and their Lab River, along with 2 Frenchies, Boris and Frankie.
Mackenzie Engel
Mackenzie Engel, RVT graduated from Stautzenberger College in 2012 with a degree in Veterinary Technology. She worked in Michigan for a year at a small animal/exotic clinic. In 2014, she moved back to Ohio and started her work here at Maumee Bay Veterinary Hospital. She has a knack for technology and computers. She enjoys spending time with family, being in warmer climates and relaxing with a good book. She lives in Millbury, with her husband Jacob, and their 2 sons, Henry and Logan. They have 1 cat named Coco, and 2 dogs, Penny and Tango.
Courtney Large
Courtney Large, RVT is a 2014 graduate from Clay High School, and graduated from Stautzenberger College in 2017 with her Veterinary Technician degree. This is her first job in the veterinary field and she absolutely loves it! She joined the team in March 2017 after her externship with us. She has always had a passion for animals. Courtney loves anything Disney, spending time with her animals at home and traveling with her friends. Courtney currently lives in Oregon with her family, their dog, Penny, and 2 cats, Louie and Bean.
Alexis Kapp
Alexis Kapp, RVT graduated from Stautzenberger College in 2018 with her Veterinary Technology Degree. This is her first job in the Veterinary field, but since childhood has always dreamed of working with animals one day. She joined us after her externship and has been with us for 4 years. Alexis currently lives in Northwood with her children Parker, Emma and her Fiance Kevin. Their home is full of animals, including dogs Freya and Gracie and cats Binx, Oscar, and Lilly. They also have a Ball Python her son named Shredder. Alexis loves being outdoors in the summertime, going for walks with her dogs, and spending time with her family.
Gulcan Wendt
Gulcan Wendt moved to Curtice, OH from Michigan in December of 2018. She has been in the veterinary field for over 7 years as a receptionist and assistant. She absolutely loves penguins! She lives in Curtice with her husband Evan, their son Colton, and cattle dog Harley. She loves fall and summertime, working out, enjoying time by the pool and boating with her family on Lake Erie.
Chelsie Troup
Chelsie Troup, Veterinary Technician graduated from Stautzenberger College in 2014 with her Veterinary Technology degree. After relocating to St. Louis in 2018, Chelsie worked at the St. Louis Zoo, working with many different species, including primates. Chelsie, her husband Brandon, and their 2 sons Hardy & Parker moved back to the Toledo area to be near family. They keep busy with their 2 cats and 2 dogs, along with many sports for their kids including hockey & soccer. Chelsie loves being a hockey mom, Disney, listening to audio books on her commute!
Ciarra Torres
Ciarra Torres graduated in 2019 from Genoa High School, along with Penta Career Center. She then graduated from Stautzenberger College in 2023 with her Veterinary Technician degree. She has always had a heart with animals since she was young. She loves spending time with family and friends and reading a good book. She currently lives with her fiance Jared, and 2 fur children, Maya and Chino. She also has multiple reptiles (lizards and snakes!).
Olivia Jensen
Olivia Jensen graduated in 2019 from Oak Harbor High School, and went on to study Animal Science at University of Findlay until 2022. She is very artistic and loves to paint and draw. Her cat Munsen is her best friend. She loves spending time with her family when she’s not working multiple jobs!
Emily Naugle
Emily graduated from Stritch High School in 2019 and Stautzenberger in 2021 with her Veterinary Technician degree. She currently lives in Toledo with her handsome dog named Tyson. She loves reading, kayaking and all things spooky!
Kira Mauder
Kira Mauder is currently at Stautzenberger College finishing up her Veterinary Technology degree. She currently lives in Oregon with her family. She loves spending time with her friends and family and enjoys fashion.
